- Rachel Sossoman, President and CEO of Mercy Urgent Care

Rachel Sossoman is the President and CEO of Mercy Urgent Care, the market leader for urgent care in Western North Carolina. In addition to her responsibilities at Mercy, Rachel enjoys serving as an ambassador for the healthcare industry. She has been published in the Journal of Urgent Care Medicine and has presented at multiple conferences on topics such as 21 st century leadership, urgent care key performance indicators, and organizational culture. Rachel was named a 2022 Business North Carolina Trailblazer, recognizing professionals under the age of 40 who are having a significant impact in sustaining and building their communities.

Rachel earned her Master of Science in Human Resources (MSHR) from Western
Carolina University, where she currently serves on the Board of Advisors for the Master of Science in Human Resources program. She is a Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), a SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), and a current candidate for the Master of Business Administration (MBA) at North Carolina State University.
In addition to her leadership responsibilities at Mercy Urgent Care and Western Carolina University, Rachel is proud to serve as President-Elect of the Western North Carolina Medical Managers Association.

Prior to her experience in urgent care, Rachel taught for nine years in NC public
schools, and was a 2001 recipient of the prestigious North Carolina Teaching Fellows
Award. Whether through education or healthcare leadership, Rachel’s passion has
remained the same: unleashing potential.
